Bernard Metrat, Chiroubles 'La Scandaleuse' 2018
- Red
- 750ml
- ABV 12.5%
From 60 year old vines near the village of Chiroubles comes this lovely Beaujolais. The palate shows bright, fresh cherry notes and a little spice as well as much more depth than most Beaujolais we've tasted recently. Not hugely food orientated but pairs well with roast chicken or duck, as well as spicy Asian cuisine.
- Country: France
- Region: Beaujolais
- Grape: Gamay
Hand harvested, natural yeast ferment of whole bunches in large concrete with ageing in concrete and stainless steel tanks for up to 85% of the wines with 15% aged in second or third use oak barrels.
Metrat is a small domaine that has tiny parcels of vines spread across several communes in Beaujolais. It is owned and run by Bernard Metrat and his father-in-law Michel Chevalier. This is a traditional domaine with the Gamay grapes being hand-harvested and then undergoing a short fermentation of six to seven days. The wines are then aged in wooden casks for six to nine months. The granitic sub-soil of the famous 'Roilette' lieu-dit, allied to a whole-bunch fermentation for its Gamay grapes, are the building blocks that have enabled M.Metrat fils (Bernard) to construct one of the best wines in the appellation.
