Welcome to The Good Wine Shop!
We're an independent wine merchant in beautiful West London with shops in Kew, Chiswick and Richmond Hill. Trading now for nearly 20 years, we pride ourselves on our customer service delivered by our passionate and knowledgeable team of wine experts and enthusiasts.
Our unique portfolio of wines & spirits is selected by the people who work for us. Whilst we are focused on family owned and small producers who have a passion for what they do, we also love variety and enjoy exploring the increasingly and incredibly diverse grape varieties found throughout the wine world. You'll find over 120 different grape varieties to explore on our website and in store. Fancy trying a Nascetta di Novello, a Ruche, a Teroldego, a Nielluccio? Buy with confidence because we don't list wines from a catalogue – we try every wine before we buy it and you can find every wine we list on this website in one of our West London shops. You won't find them though on a supermarket shelf! Many of our producers only make a few hundred cases per year.
Our strap line of Good Wine | Real People | Great Stories aims to convey the passion we have for these small family wine producers; a passion we also convey via our detailed winemaker profiles and the welcome we extend to them in our shops when they visit the UK. Not only do we host regular ticketed tasting events throughout the year where customers can meet visiting winemakers but all of our shops have comfortable winebar seating where you are welcome to order a chilled bottle from our eurocave or a red from the cellar and enjoy on our premises. Why not include a visit to a Good Wine Shop on your next day out in West London!
The Good Wine Shop is not just about wine that tastes good but wines that are good. Years of working with small producers - tasting their wines and selling to customers who come back for more - have taught us that many of the best wines are made by vignerons who farm sustainably and vinify without additives or animal products. We don't only sell organic or vegan wines. But over a third of our portfolio is now organic and/or vegan and if we include wines made under biodynamic or lutte raisonee principles then over half our portfolio. You can read more about our approach to vegan and organic wines by clicking on the links.
Aware of the pressures of climate change in the vineyard, we're also actively engaged on securing certification as the UK's first carbon neutral wine retailer – a goal we are focused on achieving next year. Surrounded by parks and bordering Kew Gardens in the greenest area of London, this objective reflects a mindset centred on our local community as well as the wider global environment. You can see that reflected in our Europe-centric portfolio;New World wines have a higher carbon footprint. But we're also working hard to reduce our day to day emissions operationally as well as offsetting the carbon emissions arising from our wine import logistics by contributing to certified tree planting programs. You can read more about our carbon neutral plans in an upcoming blogpost.
Finally we were delighted to have the quality and depth of our range recognised over the last few years. In September 2019,we won the award for Best London Wine Shop 2019 at the Decanter Magazine Retailer Awards, having won the Runner Up, Best London Wine Shop and Runner Up, Champagne & Sparkling Specialist in 2018. We have also has been highly acclaimed in the past being Specialist Wine Retailer of the Year 2017 for Champagne in the Decanter Retailer Awards, and Independent Champagne Retailer of the Year 2017 in the Drinks Retailing Awards. In addition, we were Rioja Small Independent Merchant of the Year 2015 and runner up as Independent Drinks Retailer of the Year in 2014 at the Drinks Retail Awards.
I hope you find something in our range to enthuse and excite you but one thing you can be assured of is that if we don’t love drinking it, we don’t list it!
