Lovely aromatics with grapefruit, orange, potpourri, apricot, a touch of honey and spice on the nose. The palate is fresh and rich at the same time, with lovely green and chalky Semillon characters meshing well with nuts, toast and spice. Some exotic apricot and orange peel notes shine through with well-integrated tannins.
100% Semillon sourced from an 18 year old vineyard planted on the slopes of the Helderberg in Stellenbosch. The grapes were fermented in 3 different ways whole bunch pressed with only the juice fermented in old barrel crushed & destemmed in an open top fermenter on their skins whole bunch in open top fermenter with fermentation on skins and stems. Matured in old oak for 10 months, before being blended into 2 wines. Here be Dragons is 40% skins, and 60% whole bunch fermented.
The Vineyard Party is a new project, now launching with two small – batch Sémillon bottlings from the maiden 2018 vintage. The goal here is to source biodiverse, sustainably farmed vineyard parcels, whilst working with avant-garde vinification techniques, and applying low intervention in the cellar. Winemaker Jolette Steyn seeks out sustainably farmed vineyards that prioritise biodiversity. She produces her wines in tiny quantities and embraces avant-garde, low intervention techniques in the cellar
