The name Bordeaux is derived from the French phrase “au bord de l’eau,” meaning “at the water’s edge.” This reflects the region’s connection to the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, which have been integral to its history and the flourishing success of its winemaking tradition.
The first vineyards were planted back in the Roman Times 2000 years ago. Bordeaux wine continues to represent luxury and sophistication, with the region producing some of the priciest and most sought-after bottles globally. While the 1855 Classification still serves as a historic reference for ranking these wines, it has faced criticism for being outdated and failing to account for the excellence of many emerging wineries.
