Aromas of forest floor, damson plum, leather, game, violets, and roses - delicate, subtle, fragrant, never obtrusive. Simply Pinot. The palate reflects the nose. The broad spectrum of aromas does not wither. Contrarily. It blossoms and evolves constantly as further subtleties appear. Mineral character highlights the complexity. The body is fine-boned, yet commanding and structured with a firm spine of acid that is fully integrated in a bed of silky tannin. The finish lingers long and nuanced to the very end.

The Langenlois Pinot Noir comes from the Schenkebichl vineyard, a site where gneiss and calcerous soils meet. The grapes are whole bunch fermented in open top vats and matured in used oak 500 litre barrels for a year and then bottled unfiltered.

Alwin and Stefanies historic Kamptal winery dates back to the 16th century, making it one of Austrias oldest estates. The Jurtschitsch family bought the property in 1868 and in 2006 Alwin and his wife Stefanie took over and have taken the winery from strength to strength ever since. Their first step was to convert to organic farming and place sustainability and site expression at the heart of their winemaking practice. They also started to cut down on the number of hectares they cultivate so they could dedicate their time to their top vineyards - including the renowned appellations of Loiserberg, Lamm, Kferberg and Heiligenstein. Alwin and Stefanie produce some of the most highly regarded single vineyard Rieslings and Grner Veltliners in the Kamptal. They also produce some stellar Champagne Method sparkling wines from local varieties. Alwin and Stefanie shy away from producing wine in the rich, ripe style Kamptal is often associated with. Instead, they work with densely planted vineyards and older vines, giving their wines concentration and depth of flavour while maintaining moderate alcohol levels and keeping the focus on site expression. The wines are bottled without filtration and with minimal sulphuring.
