Fabio Motta acquired this vineyard in 2012, its clay rich soils being particularly suited to Merlot. This full and gutsy red incorporates 15% Syrah alongside the Merlot and shows plenty of spicy, herby complexity with plenty of well-rounded tannin.
The grapes are harvested in small cases and entirely destemmed and crushed. Per the usual, fermentations are made with natural yeasts with the highest care for the time of maceration. After the natural malolactic fermentation, the wine goes in barriques, which are one-third new oak. It ages for about 18 months, then it is bottled and after one year, it's ready to be sold.

Motta is the realization of one man's dream, Fabio Motta, who founded the winery in 2009 with the acquisition of 4 hectares of vines that were planted in 1997 within the Bolgheri DOC. The position was excellent: overlooking the sea, at the feet of the characteristic rolling hills of Bolgheri, with a south-western exposure. But Fabio Motta was no newcomer in Bolgheri. He worked for many years with esteemed Bolgheri producer Michele Satta, whom is now, in addition to being both his friend and mentor, also his father-in-law.The wines of Fabio Motta respect and reflect the characteristic traits of the Bolgheri terroir, interpreted within the unique frame of each vintage. Fabio likes to say that the two main ingredients of his wines are fruit and freshness. He considers himself no more than a facilitator. It is the land, the grapes and the weather that shape the personality of his wines.
