Keller 'Von der Fels' Riesling, Rheinhessen, Germany, 2016

About this wine

Klaus-Peter Keller makes some of Germany's most iconic wines in all styles and sweetness levels. The Von der Fels Riesling is his 'entry level' bottling, but he considers it an important calling card for his estate and it consistently shows incredible complexity and intesity for its modest price point. In 2015 he included fruit from old vines in the Grosses Gewachs ('Grand Cru') vineyards of Morstein, Kirchspiel, and Abtserde. Production was half that of the average year, further enhancing the concentration in the wine.

'Highly aromatic with lemon and lime fruit, and a light herbal character from the spontaneous fermentation. Medium-dry sweetness balanced with beautifully intense but not harsh acidity... on the palate there is intensity and purity. There’s a light note of orange here too. Has depth and intensity but also a light touch' - Julia Harding, JancisRobinson.com, March 2016.
