Krone Borealis, House of Krone, Tulbagh, South Africa, 2017

About this wine

A fantastic and affordable alternative to Champagne, M.C.C. or Méthode Cap Classique is produced in the same classic fashion as Champagne where a second fermentation and extended lees-ageing takes place in the bottle itself. The term M.C.C. was introduced in 1992, in place of "Méthode Champenoise" which can only be used for wines produced in the Champagne region of France, though of course it was originally Huguenot settlers that first introduced French winemaking know-how to South Africa. A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, this great value fizz offers classic flavours of green apple and pear, accompanied by biscuity aromas, and with a creamy mouthfeel and a fine persistent mousse.
