As vines age they become less productive but the quality of the fruit improves with greater concentration of flavour and softer tannins.Pressing the grapes with a traditional basket press is a gentle way of extracting the juice and as 2009 was a slightly cooler year in Barossa the alcohol is a more modest 13.5%.

A delicious, dry Riesling from one of Germany’s warmer bits. This has that gorgeous nervy,racy acidity that cuts the peachy fruit and lifts the whole wine to the level of super refreshment. This is a great aperitif and will work wonderfully well with spicy Asian or Thai food.

The Garganega gives structure and acidity to the wines, while the Trebbiano di Soave gives perfume and richness of flavour. Brilliant straw yellow in colour with greenish tints. The nose is delicate and reminiscent of almond blossom and marzipan. There is good depth of fruit on the palate, nicely balanced by a zingy acidity that enhances its long length.

Intense cassis flavours ooze from this fantastic cab sauv. The gentle vanilla oak adds structure and class.

A very reliable property in the hands of Alain Thienot producing delightful traditional claret. 2003 was a very hot vintage and this wine shows more appealing fruit characters than might ordinarily be apparent.

The second wine of Musar with plenty of the great wine’s aroma and style. Mid-weight and with a highly charged aromatic nose reminiscent of exotic ancient Burgundy crossed with Bush Vine Grenache -, it has a really silky moth feel and tremendous spiced ripe fruit flavours. It’s the perfect companion to aromatically spiced middle-eastern dishes – think slow-roast shoulder of lamb with cumin and garlic. Decant an hour ahead if you can.

The name gives this one away a little. It's 100% Tempranillo and it has been aged for five months in oak (half French and half American). The characteristic warmth of the Tempranillo grape is added to weighty dark fruit and a hint of chocolate while the oak brings a creamy texture. Truly luxurious.

100% Pinot Gris produces dry apricot characters in a lean but well balanced style with hints of underlying mineral and a good line of acidity providing freshness.

Unoaked Viognier from Mendoza in Argentina and what a Viognier it is! The name Serbal comes from a magic tree reported to have grown to 99 feet by the indigenous people of the region. The grapes for this wine are grown at an altitude of 4430 feet giving a huge fragrant nose and rounded body packed full of tropical fruit that remains very fresh.

An Australian Cabernet Shiraz from an award-winning winery widely regarded as the best in Coonawarra. Expect juicy blackcurrants and blackberries with a touch of vanilla and some pepper spice from the Shiraz. A deep complex flavour but a lovely smooth drink. A must try for Coonawarra devotees.
